Aburi Girls’ Senior High School, formerly Aburi Girls’ Secondary School, also known as ABUGISS, is a Presbyterian all-girls’ senior high boarding school located on the easternmost part of the ridge forming the Akuapem Mountains, about a mile to the south of Aburi in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

The boys’ school of Aburi Girls is Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School also known as “PreSec”.

2. Accra Academy

The academy was founded by Dr. Kofi George Konuah, Samuel Neils Awuletey, Gottfried Narku Alema and James Akwei Halm-Addo on July 20, 1931, at Mantse Agbonaa, a suburb of James Town in Accra. It is one of the best boarding secondary school ever known in Ghana.

In December 1932, the academy presented its first batch of ten students for the Junior Cambridge School Certificate Examination, seven out of whom passed the examination.

In 1939, the academy presented 45 students for the Senior Cambridge School Certificate Examination, out of whom 42 students passed, with 10 students obtaining exemption from the London Matriculation Examination.

In 1947, a recommendation was made to the director of education to grant the academy the status of a Government Assisted School. The recommendation was approved and the academy begun operating as a Government Assisted school from 1 January, 1950.

The academy, a fully fledged boarding senior secondary school in Ghana, celebrated its golden jubilee in 1981 with a student enrolment of 900 and a teaching staff of 52.

Being a senior high school for boys, the academy offers admission to boys only. Gaining entry into the academy is competitive.

Achimota College, formerly Prince of Wales College, is a co-educational boarding school located at Achimota in Accra, Greater Accra, Ghana.

The school was founded in 1924 and opened on 28 January 1927 by Sir Frederick Gordon Guggisberg, the then Governor of the British Gold Coast colony, Dr. James Emman Kwegyir Aggrey and the Rev. Alec Garden Fraser.

It was formally the first-class mixed-gender/co-educational school to be established on the Gold Coast.

Formerly Ghana College, the school was established in 1960 by the Government of Ghana, under Kwame Nkrumah, as one of the Ghana Education Trust Schools.

It has a student population of about 2,800, and is the second largest school in the region after Tamale Senior High School (Tamasco). The first headmaster of the school was Kenneth Luther Purser, a Jamaican.  Master Abu Kassim Tahidu from Kwame Danso in the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana was the first senior prefect.

5. Queen of Apostles Boarding School, Elmina

Queen of Apostles Boarding School (formerly OLA Boarding) is a boarding school in Elmina, in the Central Region of Ghana. It is located on a hill just beside the first Roman Catholic Church in Ghana, St. Joseph’s Minor Basilica Church.  It is the best boarding secondary school of its kind in Ghana.
