As a human being, both as teenager and adult, you can bet that there are some of the best things to discover about yourself especially in the midst of life’s noise and tintinnabulation. Many of us have not yet come to grips of our self-identities simply because we seem to lazy to run a perfect check on ourselves or because we have given in to the oppressive noise of different opinions of us that attack us from left and right.

It is quite easy to get lost in a world of noise – a world of hustle and bustle of different identities enforced on one, as I have pointed out earlier; thus, to discover one’s self will be a hell of a work for any one who is not acquainted with the needed tips with which one can run it.

One of the greatest challenges anyone can be faced with is embracing the process, the journey or the responsibility of discovering one’s self. More of this is owing to the fact that bias or sentiment may crowd the sense of judgment through which one tends to understand oneself. As one of the greatest philosophers put it, one’s greatest foe is one’s self. And so, discovering it is the same as gripping it by the neck and subduing it to plain objectivity and logicality.

Getting a comprehensive grasp of the world around must actually begin, first from having a full understanding of your needs and desires, your patterns and structures, and certainly, your strengths and weaknesses without forcing square pegs into round holes. It is nonetheless shameful that people today tend to forget quickly who they are or that they have not even yet discovered it just because of their long obligation of satisfying the world.

Let us look at some of the best things to discover about yourself in this little time that may prepare you for what is to come:

  • Your Relationships

Take a moment to reflect on your relationships, both past, and present. Do you think they’re just healthy and beneficial or do they drain you? How do they impact your mental health and, in turn, the rest of your view of yourself? Are you able to set healthy boundaries in your relationships?

We can pinpoint our traits, strengths, and weaknesses through our relationships. They show you your fears, help you understand why you have them, and strengthen your self-knowledge.

  • Knowing When to Unplug

Social media is a deceiving rabbit hole. Constantly scrolling through other people’s lives can serve as a distraction, making you forget what finding yourself means in the first place. To be the best version of yourself, try a digital detox when social media has become overwhelming.

Some distance will help you focus on yourself and not your followers’ perception of you. Don’t forget that it’s a highlight reel of people’s lives; it’s not always reality.

  • Your Passion

Your passion differs from your hobbies but one of your hobbies could turn into your passion. Hopefully we can make some sense out of this for you. Your passion is what drives you. It’s what gets you out of bed in the morning. It’s the one thing you can do better than anyone else.

It’s what you were born to do. It’s perfectly normal to not have it all figured out yet but we encourage you to do some soul searching to discover it. We want you to live life with purpose! Ask yourself what types of activities you get excited about. What’s always on your mind? What can you not stop talking about? When at work, what would you rather be doing with your time? What keeps you up at night?

  • Pay Attention on Values that Trigger You

What skills and qualities do you like about yourself? Write them down. Your values and skills can point you in the direction you want to take your life. They can show you what you’re good at or want to experience. After you’ve settled into your career, you might feel like you know everything you need.

But expanding your knowledge base isn’t only for children or students. You can lean into your intellectual curiosity and explore subjects that interest you. You can try teaching yourself about certain subjects or listening to podcasts and reading news articles to learn small pieces of information each day.

  • Your Organization

Through this whole journey, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed and unsure. Staying organized and keeping track of your progress helps with any clutter or feelings of confusion. A great way to do this is to flex your time management skills.

To keep your life organized to have more time to think deeply about yourself, try setting a weekly cleaning schedule for your home, practicing meal prepping, or using a planner to help you keep your focus clear. Block off time throughout your week to meditate or journal to get in touch with yourself.

  • Your Communication Power

Your communication style might be a little more difficult to figure out than your likes and dislikes. You’ll have to really examine the way in which you communicate with others, both when explaining things and learning new things. Are you better at communicating through writing or speaking? Do you give clear directions or do people tend to ask a lot of questions because they don’t understand you?

Asking yourself these questions and determining what type of communicator and learner you are will open your eyes to what you can improve upon and help you get your message across more clearly.
