How to Link NIN to Airtel: Get Started With this Steps

If you are a Nigerian and an Airtel subscriber linking of NIN to your line has mandated by the government. How to link your NIN to Airtel as a user shouldn’t be a problem because it is simple and straightforward. This article will put you through the steps. NIN (National Identification Number) is the unique 11-digit number that distinguish the identity of a registered Nigerian. That is, NIN can be used to track the identity of a Nigerian.
Linking your NIN to your Airtel number is important step in complying with the Nigerian government directive in union with Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). This is to ensure that your number is not disconnected from accessing Airtel service like SMS, buying airtime, voice calls and access to internet. For you to remain active using Airtel’s services uninterruptedly, all you need is your NIN and your Airtel SIM card. Once you link your NIN  your Airtel line will be more secure from fraud and identity theft. And your line will show personal information, including  your full name and address.

There are different methods you can use to link NIN to your Airtel, here are three method you can choose from:

1. USSD Code

This is considered the fastest and easiest way to link your NIN to your Airtel line because, you don’t necessarily need to have  smartphone or have internet connection to carry it out. All you need to do is:

  • Dial *121*1# on your Airtel line.
  • You will be directed to enter your 11-digit NIN code.
  • Enter NIN code.
  • Then you will receive a “Thank you for entering your NIN” text.
  • You will receive an option to either “Enter your other Airtel number” or “End.”
  • Shortly after, you will receive a confirmation message: “Thank you for providing your NIN details (NIN). SMS confirmation will be sent to you once your NIN has been validated and updated.”

2. Airtel NIN Portal (Online)

You can link your NIN to your Airtel line anytime and anywhere using Airtel portal without stress. But, it is important that you must be connected to the internet, unlike using the USSD code, which does not require internet connection. You have to follow this steps:

  • Visit the official website of Airtel.
  • Click on “NIN”.
  • Enter your Airtel number starting with either “8″ or “9.”
  • Click on “Send OTP” to receive your One-Time Password.
  • Enter your email address or an alternative phone number. Click on “Proceed”.
  • Enter the OTP and confirm.
  • Enter your NIN and confirm to complete the process.

3. Using the NIMC Mobile ID App

You can also link your NIN via the mobile app, which allows you to operate the steps easily. And also require internet access to enable the use of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) mobile app.

  • Download the NIMC Mobile ID app on Google Play Store or Apple Store
  • Open the app and enter your information
  • Enter your 11-digit NIN
  • Enter the OTP for verification
  • Click on “My Devices”
  • Enter the mobile number and the OTP and confirm

Make sure you have your 11-digit NIN before you start and you can it link up to seven mobile phone numbers. If you encounter any problem linking your NIN. It can include invalid NIN, incorrect date of birth, and network issues you. So ensure your NIN is correct and you can contact Airtel customer care for assistance. It is important to link your NIN to avoid limited access to Airtel service.
