How to Study the Course Materials Effectively

To get the most out of your course materials, follow these simple study guidelines:

1. Read the Title and Chapter Objectives

Do not skip the title or chapter objectives. They provide an overview of what you are expected to learn and give you a clear understanding of the main theme of the chapter. Having this overview makes it easier to understand and retain the information presented.

2. Read the Chapter Summary

Read the chapter summary before or after studying the main content. The summary provides an overview of the important concepts covered in the chapter and helps you understand how the different ideas relate to one another.

3. Skim the Chapter Before Reading in Detail

Begin by reading the subheadings and looking through the content under each section. Pay attention to diagrams, illustrations, examples, and other visual information. Try to relate what you are reading to what you already know.

4. Take Note of Unfamiliar Terms

Pay attention to words, concepts, and terminology that are unfamiliar to you. Make a note of them and look up their meanings. Becoming familiar with important terms will make it easier to understand your lectures and participate confidently in academic discussions.

5. Write Down Questions

As you study, note questions that come to mind. Use these questions to guide further reading, discussions with your lecturers or fellow students, and your examination preparation.

Study Smart. Learn Better. Succeed.

The DLC UI PSychology Department course materials are provided to support your academic journey. Make effective use of these resources, study consistently, and combine your course materials with lectures, assignments, personal research, and other approved academic resources.

Best wishes in your studies at the Distance Learning Centre, University of Ibadan.
